Cuvées: The Heart of Dobbes Family Estate

Joe believes that, from vintage-to-vintage, the highest quality and most consistent Pinot Noir bottlings are achieved through the blending of multiple vineyard lots. At the heart of Dobbes Family Estate are four distinct and exquisite bottlings which showcase our winemaking talents while staying true to the vintage and varietal character. Our superlative cuvées are presented in three stylistic categories: Elegant, Opulent, and Age-worthy.

  • Grande Assemblage Cuvée — Great quality, top-tier offering of incredible value. An overture to the Dobbes Family Estate line of Pinot Noirs.
  • Skipper's Cuvée — An Elegant offering with style and grace.
  • Cuvée Noir — An Opulent offering with sumptuous, luxurious and lavish characteristics.
  • Griffin's Cuvée — An Age-worthy offering with robust, bigger extract, and powerful characteristics.

Single Vineyard Designate Pinot Noirs

Having lived and worked in Burgundy, France, Joe recognizes that there are some very exceptional vineyards which exhibit truly unique and expressive characteristics of the terroir in which they were grown.

As homage to these special sites and AVA's (American Viticultural Areas), we bottle limited quantities of amazing single vineyard Pinot Noirs from three new and distinctive AVA's of the Willamette Valley.

  • Meyer Vineyard — Dundee Hills AVA. Amazingly unique, red fruit qualities with vibrant-singing acidity and layers of complexity.
  • Quailhurst Estate Vineyard — From Parrot Mountain within Chehalem Mountain AVA. Sumptuous, silky, sexy and all about texture.
  • Symonette Vineyard — Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Characteristic Eola Hills black fruit, great structure and complexity from 30 year old Pommard vines.
  • Youngberg Hill Vineyard — McMinnville AVA. Rich, intense black fruit flavors, earthy spices, and higher acids that provide structure and muscular qualities to the wines.

Syrahs

Syrah is Oregon's flourishing "non-Pinot" varietal and it responds beautifully to the hot days and cool nights of the southern Rogue Valley AVA. Bold and earthy, juicy and exotic, this wine manifests the unique terroir of the region. The Grande Assemblage Syrah Cuveé is a thrilling expression of the Rogue Valley's fascinating varietal. Winemaker Joe Dobbes has selected two exceptional vineyards to showcase through our single vineyard designated offerings, Sundown and Fortmiller. The vineyard sites are at 2,000 feet above sea level; the higher elevation lending to incomparable depth and complexity. Our Syrah offers a bold and distinctive difference from the delicate Pinot Noir.

Whites Wines

Pinot Gris is Oregon's classic white wine and counterpart to Pinot Noir. Our Pinot Gris is sourced from the Willamette Valley AVA (American Viticulture Area), the closest designate to France's Burgundian region. Lively, yet sophisticated, our Pinot Gris exhibits aromas of green apples, lemon zest and verbena with hints of barrel spice. Beautifully balanced and refreshing, this is a treasure that Pinot Gris drinkers will truly appreciate.

Viognier (pronounced vee-own-yay) is unique in its exotic and complex qualities. Traditionally grown in France's Rhone region, this "red wine drinker's white wine" thrives in Oregon's Rogue Valley. Winemaker Joe Dobbes can recall extremely vivid details of his first Viognier experience during his apprenticeship in France. He returned to the states with a passion to produce an Oregon Viognier to rival those of the Rhone. Our Viognier, as well as our late harvest version, is seductive, full bodied, and enticingly aromatic.
